PHIL REESE 11KS NOT ENOUGH TO TAKE DOWN ISLANDERS

RINCON, PR –  The Puerto Rico Islanders have defeated the New York Bucks by a score of 6 to 4 on Friday night in what was a great pitching matchup.

Matt Quintana earned his first win of the season for the Islanders pitching 5 solid innings allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits  and striking out a team high 10 Bucks. Reliever Luis Contreras came in to pitch and picked up right where Quintana left it striking out 7 batters in just 3 innings of play without a single earned run.

Bucks starter Phill Reese went  6 innings of work allowing 4 earned runs but striking out 11 Islanders and allowing just one walk. An outstanding outing for the starters first game but it wasnt enough as a couple of defensive mistakes was the difference in this one.

Abel Medina led the way offensively for the Bucks going 2 for 5 with a run and RBI while Franklin Jennings had 4 stolen bases for the Bucks.

It was the top half of the Islanders night as Angel Perez, Shota Sugawara and Jacob Bissell all had a hit and a double  with Jacob Bissell picking up 2 RBI’s and once again leading the league in RBI’s with 5.

The Islanders improve to (2-1) while the Bucks drop to (1-2) in the standings heading into the 4th game of the series tomorrow at 6:15pm in Rincon, PR. You can watch the games live on our website. For tickets, visit the stadium location for more.

PALENCHAR HOMERS BUT BUCKS LOSE LATE TO ISLANDERS

AGUADA, PR –  The Puerto Rico Islanders have defeated the New York Bucks in walk-off fashion as Islanders Shota Sugawara and Bucks Simon Palenchar have big offensive game.

It was a hard fought game once again between the Islanders and Bucks but this time, the Islanders came away with the victory. Shota Sugawara went 5 for 6 with  a double a run scored an 2 RBI’s.

The Islanders come back was sparked by a monster 3-Run Home Run by Juan Avila that cleared the second wall of the Islanders stadium over 415 feet.

“It’s just one game. We beat them last night in a hard fought game and they beat us today the same way. That’s Baseball” Manager Ernesto Rodriguez

Simon Palenchar put up some really good numbers today  going 4 for  5 also blasting his first home run of the season,  solo shot off starter Ryo Sanogawa. Palenchar ended with 2 RBIs.

Also with big days for the Bucks were Matt Martinez 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Franklin Jennings 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and for the Islanders Will Ramos knocked a couple of singles.

It was an interesting game as Islanders Japanese starter Ryo Sanogawa faced  Bucks Japanese starter Chikara Igami. This was Igami’s first professional start. Catching Igami for the Bucks was Japanese catcher Takeru Sorita. At one point the three Japanese players were  pitching, catching and hitting.

It was definitely a hitters day as the final score was 12-11.   Winning Pitcher was Jordan Matos and losing pitcher was Kyle Richards.

JOHNSON TOPS 95MPH, DEITERS CLUTCH IN COMEBACK WIN

Bucks starter Aljordan Johnson topped out at 95mph against Puerto Rico Islanders starter Wendell Floranus who topped out at 94mph.   Aljordan threw 5 innings of work while Floranus went for 4 complete and both had no decisions.

During the 7th inning, the Bucks sent Kenneth Collins to the plate and after walking and a argument from Islanders Manager Tony Rodriguez, an out was given and it would be a game changing moment in the game as  the Islanders were able to get out of the inning and take the lead in the bottom half of the inning  with some patient hitting and great baserunning.

It wouldn’t be enough for Puerto Rico however as the Islanders loss the lead with needing just one more out. That’s when Deiters hit a monster shot that hit the top of the fence in left field to take the lead and the Bucks went on to win by the score of 5-4.
